Wool Coat

Bear bought this pink wool coat for me! I'm so excited for it to come in the mail. It's so dressy and feminine. I'm happy that I'll have a coat that I can wear to church. I can take the bow tie off if I want to to. And I'm not one of those people that gets mad if you happen to like the same style as me, so if you want one too, click HERE.

It was hard to choose from all of the different colors, but in the end I decided I wanted a happy color one instead of your typical black or grey wool coat. It just makes me happy looking at it!

This one is watermelon red, and then there's gray, light pink, red, black, beige, and camel.

Happy, happy.

And Sew It Begins

Photobucket
Remember the post I did a while ago? Click HERE. Well, I finally ordered some fabric. And I didn't get the $20/yd brocade from eBay. Instead, I went with this very very dark purple brocade from fashionfabrics.com. Much more affordable. They had some brocades at Joanne's the other day but they were mostly Chinese dress fabrics. Which I didn't want. So I was very pleased with the fabric when it came in the mail.

It took me forever to cut out because I was being super careful. And I had just enough fabric. I'm so happy because the dress pattern is exactly for my size, and all the pieces were already cut out. I'm having a fun time guessing who used this pattern and for which dress, and what fabric they used...was it for a dance? Or just for fun? Are they still alive? Haha jk. The pattern's not that old. But my favorite part is that the pattern and instructions smell like an old book. That's seriously one of my favorite smells. Kindles kill off that smell :( Anyways, let's see if I can figure out my sewing machine, because it's different from my mom's and I haven't really used it for a big project like this. I'm no sewing queen, so a lot of this is an adventure to me. I will keep the dress progress updated.

Vintage Dress Pattern

So I bought this super dee duper cute 1958 vintage dress pattern off of etsy.com. I'm planning on making View 2 but with the bow. The pattern came in the mail, but now the hard part is finding the right fabric. Secretly, all of this scares me because I've neer made something like this. Of course I quilt, and have made pajama pants and pillow cases and stuff, but dresses are a whole different story. And findng the right fabric...gah. And everybody sells quilting fabric (cotton), but it's getting harder and harder to find high quality fabric for clothing.

So far my favorite is this cream and gold brocade from eBay. But it's $20 a yard...sigh. I think it looks vintagey too. I might have to save for this fabric. Or find something cheaper. Anybody got suggestions? I would love to find the fabric soon.

Oh and I'm a size 14. Why'd they change dress sizes? It just makes it depressing when you're using a vintage pattern. But hey, Marilyn Monroe was a size 14. Weight and dress sizes are so weird.
